Howell will join Woodside Petroleum in her new role as director of North West Shelf ventures, effective September 25.
“We are fortunate to have someone with her experience and credentials taking on a role, which is so important for Woodside,” managing director Don Voelte said when announcing the appointment on Friday.
Howell will replace former Shell executive Jack Hamilton, who left in May to head Canadian-based firm InterOil.
As director, Howell will oversee all liquefied natural gas, domestic gas and condensate production from the project.
She has a bachelor’s degree with honours in geology and mathematics from Kings College, University of London, in addition to a masters in business administration from Heriot Watt University at the Edinburgh Business School.
