With an eye to improving its capabilities in data access and exchange, one of Canada's largest natural gas producers, BP Canada, has decided to outsource all the exploration and production information management for its Canadian Gas Business Unit to Schlumberger Information Services (SIS).
In addition to providing support services, the five-year 'Exploration and Production (E&P) Information Management Agreement' will see SIS personnel develop and maintain a master data store of technical and commercial data at BP's Calgary office.
Under terms of the agreement, SIS duties will include managing service requests from end users; accepting, retrieving and distributing information, maintaining information stores and archives as well as integrating information for projects.
"BP recognises the importance of information management. This agreement allows us to align ourselves with a group that has core competence in this area, and to focus on our core exploration and development business," said a senior BP Canada executive.
SIS is an operating unit of Schlumberger Oilfield Services, a leading supplier of services and technology to the global petroleum industry.
