MEO’s Timor Sea seismic moves ahead

Interpretation and mapping of the data is now underway.

“PSDM 3D seismic data has largely corrected the aberrant push-up and pull-down effects from near-surface reefs on the Epenarra structure seismic signature,” the Melbourne-based company said.

“This process was required so that accurate fault and fracture distribution mapping within the 50m gas-bearing fractured carbonate zone of Epenarra can be conducted.”

MEO said the mapping will then be used to determine the best location for the appraisal wells, to be drilled in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

The company has appointed Fugro-Jason Australia to conduct reservoir characterisation studies in the Epenarra gas-bearing zone of the Darwin Formation.

It said this study will establish the fracture density so a zone of high fracture incidence can be targeted by the Heron-2 well.

MEO has also appointed JRS Petroleum Research to conduct geomechanical evaluations to establish the regional tectonic stress regimes in the permit and to develop fracture susceptibility modelling for the Darwin Formation.

“This study is expected to determine the orientation of the open fracture sets to improve hydrocarbon production flows,” it said.

“This would ensure the optimum orientation of the Heron-2 well if production testing is deemed appropriate.”

MEO, which owns 10% of NT/P68, has appointed Darwin-based well and drilling management company, Upstream Petroleum, to manage all aspects of the 2007 drilling campaign.
