Avei was a major supporter of the PNG-Queensland pipeline project, which looks increasingly unlikely to go ahead.
According to a report in the PNG’s Post Courier newspaper yesterday, Avei has been suspended on full pay pending a leadership tribunal’s decision regarding four allegations of misconduct against him.
The matter has been adjourned until November 13, at which time Avei’s lawyer will discuss with the tribunal hearing dates and how many witnesses each party intends to call.
