Samson encounters 13m gas pay in Oklahoma well

SAMSON Oil & Gas says its Hightower 3-23 well in Oklahoma has encountered 42 feet (12.8m) of gas pay over the interval 10,528-10,580ft.

Log characters are in line with the adjacent Hightower 2-23 well – the highest volume producer in the Amber field – except that the 3-23 reservoir is thicker, the Perth-based company said.

Samson said there were no indications to date that the 3-23 location has been depleted, unlike the Turner 6-14 well.

Hightower 3-23 has now been cased and cemented with a 5½-inch casing string being set at a depth of 10,749ft.

The rig will be moved off and the well fracture stimulated in the next fortnight.

Samson holds 37.5% and 32.5% equity in two parts of the Amber field in Oklahoma’s Anadarko Basin.

Current production from the field, net to Samson, is 800,000 cubic feet per day, which is sold directly into a gas sales system. The well is expected to add about 230,000cfd net production, taking Samson’s total net production from the field once this well is finished, to 1.03 million cubic feet per day.

The field has been on production for decades and is currently undergoing an infill development program.
