Strong gas flows from Reid’s Dome wildcat: White Sands

WHITE Sands Petroleum says it has already encountered strong gas flows while drilling its first w...

Current testing has determined these flow rates were in excess of 2.8 million cubic feet per day at a depth of 135-151m in the Reid’s Dome Production Sands.

The Brisbane-based company said this gas-bearing formation was identified during a drilling program undertaken in 1954, which included the AOC-1 well.

Managing director Don Schofield said the gas flows were an important milestone for his company.

“We are hopeful of more discoveries and testing in WSP Primero as we continue to drill to the projected total depth of 2700 metres,” he said.

Once testing is complete, the company plans to case the shallow gas zone to a depth of 300m with 9 5/8-inch casing before continuing to drill with its WSP Rig-1 to test the deeper targets.
