The offshore Otway Basin project’s problems are the subject of a claim and counter-claims for damages between operator Origin Energy and the original engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contractor Clough.

BassGas began producing gas in May and condensate in June. But Origin spokesman Angus Guthrie said the commissioning phase was near its end.

Work was also continuing on the source Yolla A platform.

BassGas has estimated reserves of 307 billion cubic feet of gas, 14 million barrels of condensate and 800,000 bbl of oil. It is expected to supply about 10% of Victoria’s energy needs for the next 15 years.

The BassGas joint venture comprises Origin Energy (operator and 42.5% equity), Australian Worldwide Exploration (30%), CalEnergy (15%) and Mitsui subsidiary Wandoo Petroleum (12.5%).
