The pipeline will be expanded by constructing an additional gas turbine compressor at GGT’s Paraburdoo compressor station site.

APT is an 88.2% partner in the Goldfields Gas Transmission joint venture, which owns the pipeline.

In June this year, the joint venture entered a conditional 16-year gas-transportation agreement with Pilbara Iron, the asset manager for Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Western Australian operations, to transport gas to the Paraburdoo mine.

The contract is now unconditional and Pilbara Iron has exercised an option in the agreement to increase the amount of gas transported to 16 terajoules per day. When fully operational in late 2006 the contract will add about $5 million per year to APT’s Western Australian revenue, the company said.
