Work-over goes flat at Champagne Creek

A WORK-OVER program over the weekend at the Champagne Creek-3 gas well in the Surat Basin faile...

As a result, the rig has been released and the well shut down to get pressure data.

The workover was being conducted to isolate the 575m-deep gas reservoir from nearby aquifer sands before a gas flow test.

Testing was dependent on competent squeeze cementing being completed, the company said. But this was unsuccessful and both formation water and gas flowed to surface on initial testing.

However, Sunshine said that during drilling of an intermediate hole section of Champagne Creek-3 a “significant” gas kick had been found within the Moolayember Formation at 575 metres and wireline logs indicated the gas zone was “well developed”.

The company still plans to take gas samples to obtain a gas flow rate at the well.

Interests: Sunshine Gas Ltd 100%.
