New co-regulatory body for NZ gas industry

THE New Zealand government has approved the formation of the co-regulatory body for the gas indus...

The organisation will be able to make recommendations to the government on a wide array of industry matters, including the making of rules and regulations for gas wholesaling, processing, transmission, distribution and retailing.

“It's good to see the work that the gas industry has undertaken to establish the company come to fruition today," said newly-appointed Energy Minister Trevor Mallard this morning.

"I look forward to them engaging with the wider industry and consumers to ensure that the key objectives for the gas industry, as outlined in the Government Policy Statement on Gas Governance, are met."

The board will be responsible for the development of the rules under which the gas industry will operate and its initial areas of interest will be the wholesale markets and processing, transmission and distribution, and retail and consumer arrangements.
