NZ conference: Best yet say organisers

The eighth New Zealand Petroleum conference, which concluded today in Auckland, was the best yet ...

Usually about 340 delegates attended conferences, this time the number was over 400, with about a third coming from overseas.

"In terms of the content of the papers presented and the spirit of the event, this was definitely the most successful yet held," said conference organiser and Crown Minerals publicity unit manager Roger Gregg.

The conference had been successful in its aim of encouraging exploration and fostering development. However, he agreed with Shell NZ chairman Lloyd Taylor, who said the industry needed to work together more to solve the problems confronting it, particularly the looming gas supply shortage.

"Activity is needed now. The industry accepts that, but it has to be translated into action," said Gregg.
