Woodside's Cossack Pioneer Team picked up a 'Certificate of Merit' for its work on minimising flared gas volumes from the Cossack Pioneer Floating Production, Storage and Offtake facility.
The State Development Minister Clive Brown said a change in flaring policy and operational procedures, combined with minimising unplanned system outages, has led to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and improved facility performance.
"The reduction of flare gas emissions from Cossack Pioneer is well beyond regulatory requirements and sets new standards in emission control. The project demonstrates how procedural changes, as opposed to capital investment, can result in both environmental and economic improvements," the Minister said.
The Minister added awards are held every year to encourage the resource and petroleum industry to achieve excellence, recognise achievements and to show the public that a balance can be struck between environmental values and economic development.
