Diver freed after 10 hour ordeal

After spending over 10 hours trapped in 600 metres of water, a diver was rescued by a Canyon Offs...

The diver was operating a manned submersible vessel and was attempting to perform intervention tasks on a subsea well when the tool seized. The M/V Merlin, outfitted with a TRITON XL work class ROV, was immediately deployed to the site to assist with the recovery.

The ROV reached the 1800 feet water depth and released the tool and the submersible approximately five minutes after reaching the immobilised unit. The manned submersible and its pilot were safely recovered shortly thereafter, ending their 10 hour ordeal.

John Edwards, CEO of Canyon Offshore stated, "We are extremely pleased that we could intervene in this dangerous situation, using our ROV technology to rescue the pilot and the submersible."

Canyon Offshore, Inc., a member of the Cal Dive group of companies, is headquartered in Houston and maintains offices in Aberdeen and Singapore.
