EXPLORATION

VicPet, Roma finish next CSM hole

COAL seam methane exploration partners Roma Petroleum and Victoria Petroleum have reached a total depth of 276 metres on their second CSM appraisal well drilled at the Lawton project area in Surat Basin permit PL 171.

Roma, as operator, has taken three coal cores from the Paradise Downs-2 well between a depth of 118m and 137m for desorption tests to determine the gas content of the coals in this section of the lease.

Paradise-2 was drilled about 1.5km south of the first well, Paradise-1, which was drilled and logged by the joint venture last week.

They are both follow-ups to the Lawton-1 well, which flowed gas to surface on test from the Walloon coal measures when drilled by Queensland Gas Company in 2001.
