EXPLORATION

Hector-1 wildcat dry: AWE

THE Hector-1 well off Taranaki, New Zealand, is being plugged and abandoned after failing to encounter significant hydrocarbon shows in any of its three main target zones.

Hector-1 wildcat dry: AWE

Operator Australian Worldwide Exploration said Hector-1 had reached total measured depth of 3825m this morning and wireline logs were being run to further evaluate the reservoir intervals – the Eocene-aged Kapuni C sands and deeper Kapuni D and Kapuni F10 reservoirs – encountered during drilling of the well in licence PEP 38483.

Hector-1 was the first in a four-well exploration campaign to be drilled by different AWE-led consortiums off Taranaki. The Ocean Patriot will now move north to drill the Taranui-1 near-field appraisal well in the Tui Area licence PMP 38158. West Cape-1 in PEP 38481 and Kopuwai-1 in PEP 38482 will follow.

The PEP 38483 partners are operator AWE (44.3%), New Zealand Oil & Gas (through its subsidiary Stewart Petroleum, 18.9%), Mitsui E&P New Zealand (22.7%), and Pan Pacific Petroleum (through its subsidiary WM Petroleum (14.1%).
