The frontier explorer released this initial resource estimate for its Wintinna East EL 3325 permit following an independent review of the previous drilling data by consultancy Geos Mining.
Results from the survey indicated the permit contained 690 million tonnes of inferred resources of sub-bituminous coal with a target of 2-3 billion tonnes of coal, Sapex said.
“The outcome of the initial study on EL 3325 not only indicates a potential for some 207Bcf to 1.1Tcf of CSG based on a notional gas content of 300cf/t, but also enhances the potential for value-adding options for the coal itself,” Sapex managing director Andrew Andrejewskis said.
He added that Sapex’s own interpretation of seismic data indicated a coal resource covering 3500km in this area, which Andrejewskis said provided “ample opportunity” for major CSM resources.
Geos Mining is undertaking a similar study on another of Sapex’s exploration areas, known as Weedina EL 3326.
