Casing has been set at Kenya-8 after it intersected 25.9m of gassy coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures. It is currently suspended, awaiting a workover rig to drill out the plug and clean out the well before running the pump, according to QGC.
Having left the Kenya-8 location, the Ensign Rig-34 is now onsite and preparing to drill the next well, Kenya-9, in the program.
The well is designed to access both the Juandah and Taroom coal measures for immediate production.
Once it reaches total depth, all significant seams in these objectives will be under-reamed and seven-inch pre-perforated casing set.
QGC said the Kenya-8 and Kenya-9 wells, both in PL 228, were the eighth and ninth wells in the current-10 well program to meet the contractual obligations of the Incitec Pivot gas sales agreement.
Interests in PL 228 are operator QGC with 59.375%, and Origin Energy with 40.625%.
Elsewhere in the Surat, QGC’s Berwyndale-54 well has intersected 23m of gassy coal in both the Juandah and Taroom coal measures, after reaching a total depth of 696.5m.
Located in PL 201, Berwyndale-54 is the fourth in an eight-well program to provide additional gas deliverability into contracts including the expanded Braemar Power Project.
As operator, QGC owns a 90% stake in PL 201, while Sentient Gas Australia holds the remaining stake.
