But operator Apache Northwest has deemed the find too small for commercial development and so is plugging and abandoning the wildcat.

Tap said the well confirmed the migration of oil to the east of the Gibson/South Plato field. The rig will now sidetrack from the Gobi-1 well bore to drill the next exploration well in the program, South Gibson-1.

Gobi-1 was drilled as a deviated well from the Gibson/South Plato Plaform in TL/1 to a total depth of 3800m, about 2.5km southeast of the surface location.

Tap has a 12.22% interest in HJV, while operator Apache Northwest has a 68.5% stake and Kufpec Australia, 19.28%.
