The well, which has a planned total depth of 9200 feet (2804m), will aim to test the Wilcox Sands and define the northern extent of the field.
Once the results of Peterson-1 are known in about three to four weeks time, the operator will undertake a short field study to determine the best way to complete the most recently drilled wells.
Amadeus said the purpose of this study was to accelerate the recovery of the reserves already established in the field.
Last week, the Perth-based company announced the most recent exploration well in the program, Anderson-1, would be completed for production, after encountering more than 100 feet of total net gas pay in eight separate Lower Wilcox zones.
This was the 10th successful well drilled on the Halletsville project area, out of 13 drilled to date – a success rate of 77% for Amadeus.
Amadeus holds a 29.7% interest in Peterson-1 and the Halletsville South project, up from 25%, as a JV partner did not take up their interest.
