Gas was encountered in the target PL2B zone, in addition to a new eight-metre net pay at a shallower depth of 2,115 metres, according to Po Valley.
“The estimated gross pay of the primary objective PL2B zone is 20 metres between 2,170.5 and 2,190.5 metres,” CEO Michael Masterman said.
“This is 30 metres higher than Sillaro-1 and 12.5 metres higher than the nearby Budrio 2 gas well that tested commercial gas flows for ENI in the 1960s.”
He said the new zone, of 13m gross pay and 8m net, appeared to be in good gas bearing sands.
Masterman said the well was now being prepared for casing ahead of initial testing, but the company had had problems removing a retrievable packer.
Sillaro-1D was spudded eight days ago about 300 metres south of the Sillaro-1 exploration well, which was drilled by the company in July this year.
A subsequent well will be drilled next year to investigate the larger, deeper Miocene target, the company said in an earlier report.
