As of 5am this morning, Perth time, the well was drilling ahead at 1360 metres below the rotary table (BRT) towards a revised total depth of 1370 metres BRT.
The well has drilled a gross 45 metre interval of tight sandstones with oil shows.
“But subject to more complete log evaluation at total depth, the initial indication is that these sands display very poor reservoir quality,” operator Roc Oil said.
“Unless significantly better reservoir is encountered, it is anticipated that the well will be plugged and abandoned after total depth has been reached and logging completed.”
Flying Foam-1 is located in 60 metres of water, 160km northwest of Geraldton, Western Australia.
The well was notable for being Arc Tnergy's first offshore project. Arc's equity in the well was inherited from Voyager Energy following the recent merger between the two Perth Basin-focused companies.
Following Flying Foam-1, the ENSCO 67 jack-up drilling rig will relocate to the Cliff Head Oil Field, 230 km to the southeast in neighbouring permit WA-286-P.
At Cliff Head, the WA-286-P Joint Venture will use the rig to install production facilities and undertake development drilling.
The WA-327-P Joint Venture comprises: Roc Oil (WA) Pty Ltd (operator) 37.5%, Apache Northwest Pty Limited 37.5%, Arc Energy 20% and Wandoo Petroleum Pty Ltd 5%.
