Perth-based Strike announced only this week that all three wells - Berndt-1, Sorrel-1 and Lyman Gas Unit-2 - in its shallow gas drilling program in the onshore Gulf Coast, Texas, had been dusters.
Strike Oil will fund 35% of well costs, or A$1.5 million, to earn a 26.25% working interest in the Mesquite B prospect, it said.
Mesquite B is estimated to contain 10 to 15 billion cubic feet of gas potential with individual well potentials of 3 to 5 billion cubic feet each, according to Strike.
The well is expected to take 45 days to reach a planned total depth of 3810 metres.
“A successful well at this location can be quickly developed and tied into nearby pipeline infrastructure to take advantage of the very high gas prices in the area if a discovery is made,” Strike managing director Simon Ashton said.
“The prospect will target the Wilcox Formation on a broad faulted structure which has exceptional production established from six other wells drilled by competitors on adjacent leases over the last 8 months.”
Upon success at Shefcik-1, additional drilling would follow on the formation, including the Mesquite A prospect with potential additional reserves of 15 to 20 billion cubic feet of gas, Strike said.
