Origin spuds Childers Cove-1 gas wildcat

THE Century 7 rig started drilling at the Childers Cove-1 gas exploration well in onshore Otway Basin exploration permit 154 on Monday evening, operator Origin Energy said.

Childers Cove-1 is about six kilometres north-west of the Croft gas field and 28km south-east of the city of Warrnambool.

The well will evaluate the potential of the Late Cretaceous Waare Formation, the main producing horizon for all previous gas discoveries in the area. It has a planned total depth of 2536 metres and is expected to take 17 days to drill and evaluate.

Participants in PEP 154 and Childers Cove 1 are: Origin Energy Resources Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Energy Limited) operator and 90%, and Beach Petroleum Limited 10%
