China Energy unit begins Caspian drilling

The subsidiary of China Energy Ventures, KoZhaN LLP, has begun drilling operations at Well-10 at the Morskoe field. The acreage is located on the northeast shore of the Kazakhstani side of the Caspian Sea.

Drilling at the site has reached depths of 350 metres as of 28 October and TD has been set at 1,300 metres, which KoZhaN believes can be reached by late November.

In a statement the firm said, “Well-10 offsets the capped Well-6, which was drilled in 1965 and tested 1,300 bopd of 25 degrees API crude on a 9mm choke.”

“Based on the test results for Well-10, two additional infill locations can follow directly,” it added without elaborating further.
