"The past few months the Territory Government has been working closely with the East Timorese and Australian Government as they move to finalise treaty arrangements, and also developing a strong domestic market case for on shore gas," she said.

"The next few months are crucial in ensuring gas comes on shore and I'll be seeking these leaders' support for this valuable resource to be piped to Darwin in the national interest.
"The meetings with Mr Beattie and Mr Rann are important to raise awareness of Timor Sea gas and its importance to the Queensland and South Australian public."
The Chief Minister said Victorian premier Steve Bracks and New South Wales leader Bob Carr had already pledged their support, recognising the need to secure this long-term energy source to meet their State's future needs.
"With Australia predicted to face a gas shortage in under 10 years it is crucial that we secure this Timor Sea resource for the use of Australia."
Ms Martin praised private and public sector members of Team NT for their efforts and vowed to continue to work with all members to ensure gas is brought on shore to Darwin.
