No oil/water contact was intersected in the Taunton sandstone interval, indicating further downdip potential, and a further hydrocarbon column of 8 metres was intersected within the underlying Barrow Group sandstone reservoir.
The Joint Venture believes the discovery of hydrocarbons within the Taunton sandstones in this step out well has demonstrated an extension of the Taunton Field to the south into the TP/7 permit.
Taunton-4 has also intersected the Taunton reservoir higher than the previous four wells.
Following the completion of logging of this well, the rig will move three kilometres to the east to drill another step out well, Blackthorn-1 to evaluate a southeasterly extension of the Taunton Oil Field.
TP/7 Joint Venture participants are Tap Oil 12.474%, Santos (Operator) 43.711%, Apache Oil Australia 39.658% and Pan Pacific Petroleum (South Australia) 4.157%.
