200 workers to be pushed from the Neste

The announcement of the cuts follows almost two months of employer-employee negotiations with about 2500 people, resulting in about 100 workers choosing voluntary retirement.

Neste entered the discussions planning to drop 250 workers over its renewables, shipping and refining businesses.

Most of the staff reductions will occur in the group's support functions through next year and in its oil products business through 2016.

Operational reductions will occur in accordance with turnarounds and production schedules at the company's Porvoo and Naantali refinery units.

The company will invest more than €250 million ($A363.8 million) in growth and optimised production from the refineries, and will seek to merge their operations to achieve more efficient control and cost-efficiency.

The group also resolved to close down some refineries.

Neste employs about 5000 people, 3500 of which are based in Finland.
