According to Friday's Stavanger Aftenblad the 38-year-old man of foreign origin fell into a tank on the Intrepid on June 13.
The rig had arrived at the Norwegian shipyard a few days earlier.
"The rig is planning to stay at Westcon Yards for 50-60 days to train the crew, install third party equipment and to test the systems on board," Westcon rig manager Malvin Eide said when it arrived.
Designed for "ultra-harsh" environments, the Maersk Intrepid's legs are 206.8m long - not much shorter than the 214m height of Perth's iconic Bankwest Tower - giving the rig the ability to work in water depths of up to 150m.
The Norwegian publication considered the Intrepid incident as one of three serious accidents at Westcon over recent years with the other two including an elevator shaft-related falling fatality in 2011 and crane-related death in 2009.
