Contact thermal generation manager Barrie Almond today said the award scheme recognised outstanding projects that put into practice the sustainable management philosophy of the Resource Management Act 1991.
The TCC plant east of Stratford was chosen for the award for taking a pro-active approach to environmental management and consistently achieving a high level of environmental performance throughout its six years of operation.
When completed in 1998, the plant was the first of the new generation of gas-fired stations in New Zealand. It has been owned by Contact since early 2003.
“We are delighted to receive the award from the Taranaki Regional Council. Contact is committed to environmental excellence and this is a great result for the effort our team has put in to achieve the very best in environmental performance,” said Almond.
Contact’s other power station in Taranaki is the ageing single-cycle New Plymouth power station.
