Under this realignment, AGL is forming two new business units from its power generation and energy sales and marketing groups. These new units will be known as merchant energy, and retail energy, effective 1 March.

Michael Fraser, currently head of the energy sales and marketing group, has been appointed group general manager, merchant energy. This unit will have responsibility for power assets, gas development, wholesale energy and wholesale customers.

Phil James has been appointed the group general manager, retail energy, and will assume this new role on 4 April. James is the former chief executive of NGC Holdings in New Zealand. His unit will have responsibility for customer service, retail operations, marketing, residential sales and retail regulation.
