Organisers of the conference put the blame on the state-run utility company PLN cutting the power supply in order to conserve electricity.

PLN president director Eddie Widiono, when addressing the conference later, stated, "more than 100 million Indonesians presently live without a steady supply of electricity" and that "foreign investment of up to US$28 billion is needed over the next decade to improve the situation."

Takhyan only said, "Maybe it was an act of God. I hope the audience found it funny."
