The power conditioner (PCU) has been developed for mass global markets in developing countries, initially in the 1 to 3 kVA power range. AES said it is ideally suited to the large village electrification programs being developed in many countries. The product is being developed for full scale production in the 5kVA range by the end of the year.
Present sales numbers are projected to be 1000 units by that time, representing nearly $2 million of revenue, with around 40% of those orders already placed. The new PCU electronic control module is primarily intended for controlling single-phase power systems using combination current and voltage control to achieve superior power quality.
With a highly process intensive control approach the design reduces materials and components thus lowering cost and increasing reliability. The design also employs automated test and manufacturing capabilities.
This PCU is capable of supplying standalone loads in small scale off-grid and distributed generation applications, using DC power from an energy storage subsystem and an integrated maximum power point control extracts maximum energy from renewable energy generators.
The company also announced it has accepted a $2.5million offer for its building facility at 5 Turner Ave, Technology Park Bentley WA. The planned sale of the building had been previously flagged and would lower operating costs when AES moved out of the building.
