A WELL explosion in Texas has killed one worker and critically injured two others on Friday night.

Police in Eddy County said an explosion occurred while a drill rig was operating at a BOBCO lease on Twin Wells, just south of the New Mexico border, KOB TV reported.

"Noel Soto, 23, was pronounced dead on scene as a result of injuries he sustained in this explosion," the television network reported.

"Two others were transported by helicopter to Lubbock Medical Center and were considered in critical condition. A fourth individual was transported to Carlsbad Medical Center."

Investigations are underway.
