Troops called out in PNG

THE Papua New Guinea government will deploy troops into the Southern Highlands and Enga provinces to take on "hooligans" after recent violent outbursts at the ExxonMobil-led PNG LNG project and Barrick Gold's Porgera mine.

A move to deploy troops to overcome a local "stop work" campaign against the PNG LNG project was flagged by cabinet a week ago, but the recent violence at the Porgera mine made the decision easier to make....
