Puffin well takes off

SINOPEC and AED Oil have flowed 3600 barrels of oil per day during flow testing of their Puffin-1...

Preliminary results from the testing indicates the two main sequences of the 25m oil-bearing interval contribute to the oil flow and that the 43-45 degree API oil is of similar quality to oil produced elsewhere on the Puffin field.

The well in the Puffin South West region also flowed associated gas at a rate of 120 cubic feet per barrel of oil.

AED added the reservoir sand is highly permeable and that based on testing, initial well production could exceed 10,000bpd.

The company also said preliminary assessments indicate the reservoir sands intersected by Puffin-11, which include the LK1a sands, confirm and extend the existence of the oil sand formation intersected by the Puffin-10 well drilled late last year.

This new reservoir is separate from and adds to the other as yet undeveloped sandstone reservoirs in the Puffin SW region.

These other reservoirs include the LK1a reservoir at Puffin-9 and the UK1a reservoir at Puffin-9 and at Puffin-2.

Puffin-11 has now been plugged and suspended while the Wilcraft jack-up rig is relocating to drill the Puffin-12 well in the Puffin North East region.

Further evaluation of flow test results and the geological and reservoir assessment is continuing.

In the meantime Puffin-11 has been plugged and suspended pending continuing work on well planning for optimal development.

The Wilcraft drilling rig is relocating to the Puffin-12 drilling site in the Puffin NE region.

Sinopec has a 60% stake in the field while AED holds the remaining 40%. Norwest Energy has a 1.25% over-riding royalty over production from the field.
