Co-venturer Moby Oil & Gas reported on Friday that the Coelacanth-1 well in VIC/P45 was at a depth of 907m, where intermediate wireline logs have been run.

After casing is run, the well will continue drilling ahead to a total depth of 3038m.

Coelacanth-1 is targeting the Top Latrobe horizons in VIC/P45, where Apache is earning a 66.7% stake in the permit from Moby Oil (16.66%) and Exoil (16.67%) by funding two wells.

VIC/P45's northern edge is only 2km east of Australia's largest oil field, Kingfish, and is close to several other Esso-BHP producing oil and gas fields.

Apache's first well to be drilled using the West Triton rig targeted the Wasabi prospect in its 100%-owned VIC/P58.
