Oil Search makes Egyptian find

OIL Search and Sipetrol International are considering the possible up-dip appraisal of the Raheek...

Wireline logging of the well showed it had intersected 13 feet of pay in the Upper Bahariya formation while the Kharita formation was interpreted as being water-bearing.

The well, drilled to a total depth of 3978m, is now being plugged and abandoned.

The rig will move to the Salma prospect about 5km west of Raheek-1.

It will target the Bahariya and Kharita formations as well as the Alam el Bueib formation which is a prolific reservoir elsewhere in the Western Desert of Egypt.

The participants in Rana-1 are: Sipetrol International 50.5% (operator) and Oil Search 49.5%.

Menawhile, Oil Search said it is running logs at its West Ghobata-1 well in Yemen after reaching a total depth of 2301m.

The well, located about 2.5km southwest of the Ghobata-1 well targets the Qishn Clastics, with secondary objectives in the Lam, Kuhlan Sandstone and fracture Basement.

Participants in Block 49 are operator CCC (17.07%), Oil Search (42.33%), Virgin Resources (25.6%) and The Yemen Company (15%).

Oil Search added it is drilling ahead at the West Zeit-X1 exploration well in Egypt and the Korobosea-1 gas exploration well in Papua New Guinea.
