Co-venturer Tap Oil said the Maitland-3H well subsequently flowed gas and associated clean-up liquids to surface.
“Tap is very pleased that the flow of gas to surface has confirmed the extent of the Maitland field,” the company said.
“Initial flow performance is within expectations at this stage. The production test results will be used to establish development production rates for the field.”
Production testing of Maitland-3H is expected to take one week, after which the well will be plugged and abandoned as planned.
Last week, Tap and partner Pan Pacific Petroleum announced the initial attempts to flow-test Maitland-3H were interrupted by water influx, believed to be coming from an open zone above the reservoir interval.
The Maitland field, northwest of Barrow Island, is in Permit WA-33-R, and held by operator Apache (48.82%), Tap Oil (22.47%), Santos (18.71%) and Pan Pacific Petroleum (10%).
