Arakubi drowns Oil Search hopes

The updip sidetrack would test what may either be a separate structure or a possible extension of a known productive block in the Usano complex.

Logging data obtained while drilling the Arakubi-1A well indicated low resistivity in the primary target Toro sandstone, as well as secondary targets in the Hedinia and Iagifu sands suggesting they are water-bearing.

Dip information suggests the well, which was drilled to a total depth of 3221m, was located off the crest of the structure and only a short vertical distance beneath the most likely oil water contact.

Oil Search plans to obtain wireline pressure and dip information before assessing the results.

Arakubi-1A is a redrill of Arakubi-1, which started drilling in mid 2006 but was suspended due to rig problems.

Arakubi-1A is in PDL 2 about 5km east of the Kutubu oil field.

Participants in Arakubi-1A are Oil Search 60%, ExxonMobil 14.5%, AGL 11.9%, Merlin Petroleum 6.8% and Petroleum Resources (Kutubu) 6.8%.
