Salinas starts North San Ardo horizontal drilling

CALIFORNIA-focused Salinas Energy says it plans to spud the first of four horizontal production wells at its 100%-owned North San Ardo oil project by the end of the week.

The field is producing about 250 barrels of oil per day through temporary facilities, which will be shut-in while the existing production wells are connected to the permanent tanks.

Production is forecast to restart in the next two weeks at about 500bopd, increasing to 1000bopd before year-end when the additional production wells are brought online, Salinas said.

Once all four horizontal wells have been drilled, the rig will move to drill the first development well at Salinas’ recently acquired McCool Ranch project, which has the potential to contain up to 1 million barrels of recoverable oil.

Success at McCool Ranch will add to the 5.5 million barrels of proved plus probable reserves that Salinas Energy has already booked at North San Ardo.
