Easternwell gets big in hot rocks

Geodynamics earlier this week announced it had bought the US built “state-of-the-art” Lightning Rig from Texas for $32 million.

It is aiming to use the drilling rig to spud Australia’s first commercial-scale hot rocks well in the Cooper Basin, by mid-year.

Easternwell managing director Troy Campbell said the potential to reach and tap into the stored energy has never been more promising.

“We’re all very excited to be part of this project and look forward to developing a long-term relationship with Geodynamics,” Campbell said.

Easternwell, formerly known as Eastern Well Services, said it would provide a “comprehensive” operations package combining almost all of the group’s resources and services including drilling expertise, specialist well servicing, pressure control, remote area catering, job-specific trained crew and exemplary level safety.

It would also supply health and environment management plans, logistics and transport and access to the Easternwell new technology, design and manufacturing facility based in Toowoomba, Queensland.

The company said it was already well established in the Cooper Basin where Geodynamics will be tapping into the hot rock geothermal energy.

“The challenge to find and help provide clean sustainable power is one we are very proud to be associated with,” Campbell said.

“The geothermal project will enable our company to use its resources and services to their fullest capabilities.”
