The Perth-based company yesterday said the well, being drilled from the Gibson/South Plato platform, would be drilled as a deviated well to about 3500m measured depth.
Gobi-1 is designed to test a four-way dip closed drape structure in the Flag Sandstone to the east of the Gibson/South Plato fields.
“In the success case, the Gobi-1 exploration well will be completed and brought on production very quickly, as it is being drilled from an existing production platform,” Tap said.
The well is expected to take about 12 days to reach the proposed total depth.
Tap has a 12.22% interest in HJV, while operator Apache Northwest has a 68.5% stake and Kufpec Australia, 19.28%.
