QGC yesterday said the Kenya East-2 well in permit ATP 648P reached a total depth of 740m after intersecting 29.5m of gassy coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures.
The eighth well in the drilling program, Kenya East-2 is designed to investigate the seams of the coal measures in the area to add geological information for a reserves certification process.
QGC said the first well in the program, Berywyndale South-62 in PL 201 reached a total depth of 671m after also intersecting 25.5m of gassy coal in the coal measures.
The well is being used to provide additional deliverability to meet increased contractual obligations including the Braemar Power Project contract, the company said.
QGC said after wireline logging in both wells, all significant seams in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures were under-reamed and 7-inch pre-perforated casing was set across the Juandah coal measures.
Both wells are suspended and awaiting a workover rig to drill out the plug and clean out the well before running the pump, it said.
QGC holds a 58.75% interest in ATP 648P, while Origin Energy CSG owns 31.25% and Sentient Gas Australia, 10%.
QGC also holds a 90% stake in PL 201, while Sentient Gas owns the remaining 10%.
QGC in September announced it was undertaking an aggressive new drilling program aimed at proving up CSM reserves in its eastern Surat Basin acreage.
The company expects results from the new drilling and testing program will accelerate the commercialisation of its interests on the Undulla Nose and increase proven and probable reserves to at least 1000 petajoules.
