Currently, Oilex is rigging up to run wireline logs over the Cambay-71 well, which encountered the main objectives as predicted in the geological prognosis.
A fortnight ago, the company said the Cambay-72 well had encountered a significant column of “excellent quality” gas in one of its objectives.
A workover rig will be used to consecutively test both wells later this month to minimise cost.
In related news, Oilex said it has awarded a contract to Polish seismic outfit, Geofysika Torun, to undertake a 3D seismic survey over the Cambay production contract area. Field personnel are being mobilised to the field, Oilex said.
The Cambay field is located in a prolific onshore petroleum province in Gujarat at the northern end of the Bay of Cambay, close to existing pipelines and industrial infrastructure in India’s main heavy industrial corridor.
In June, Oilex announced it was taking over as operator of the Cambay field, in which it has a 45% stake, 15% of which was acquired from Niko Resources and remains subject to approval by the Indian Government. Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) holds the remaining 55% interest in the Cambay production sharing contract.
