Last Camden CSM well reaches total depth

SYDNEY Gas says the last deviated well from its Camden coal seam methane project in South West Sydney has reached total depth and is awaiting fracture stimulation in late October.

The company said the Glenlee-16 (GL16) well was drilled directionally from the GL07 well site in Stage 2 of the Camden project, to accelerate production from an area isolated due to land access.

It reached total depth on September 15.

“GL16 has intersected the Upper Permian Illawarra Coal Measures at a vertical depth of approximately 775 metres, and at a horizontal displacement of approximately 420m,” Sydney Gas said.

“Once fracture simulated and dewatered, GL16 will be tied into the gas gathering system to produce gas to the Rosalind Park gas plant.”

Sydney Gas said Rig 15 spudded the surface hole of GL16 on June 16 to prepare for the more powerful Rig 16.

Rig 16 was required to drill the directional section of the well from September 8 onwards, it said.

Sydney Gas is operator of the Camden gas project with a 50% interest while Australian Gas Light owns the remaining stake. GL16 is part of the project’s current four-well program.

The project plans to become the first joint venture to use an integrated geophysical and geological approach for coal seam methane assessment in the Sydney Basin.

It is currently undertaking an 85km 2D seismic survey over the project area, which it expects to complete at the end of this month.

In addition, the partners are also reprocessing 650km of high resolution seismic data recorded over the area in 1987, 1988 and 1990.

An integrated seismic interpretation will then be carried out using existing geological and production data to optimise the locations of future production wells. It will also assist in locating planned coreholes and pilot production test wells to develop resource and reserves estimates beyond the Stage 2 area, Sydney Gas said.

The data processing of both the current and previous seismic data is due for completion at the end of next month.

To achieve similar objectives, the JV plans to acquire an initial 125km of 2D seismic data in the Hunter region next January.

AGL Energy Limited is operator of the Camden Gas project with a 50% interest while Sydney Gas owns the remaining stake.
