Using the Atwood Hunter drill rig, Colin-1 is being drilled in 168m of water and has a total planned depth of 2300m, joint partner Hardman Resources said.

At a depth of 254m, a 36-inch conductor was set and cemented in place. The well is currently drilling ahead in the 18½-inch hole section to the intermediate casing point.

Colin-1 is targeting a Miocene channel system of slightly younger age than the Chinguetti and Tiof fairways. The prospect is about 60km south of the Chinguetti field.

The Colin prospect is a stratigraphically trapped, incised canyon sand system with amplitude support. Hardman said it has the potential to contain about 170 million barrels of recoverable oil, with follow-up potential in older canyon systems below the Colin Miocene channel and in adjacent channel fairways.

Participants in Colin-1 and PSC A Block 3 are Woodside (operator with a 53.846% stake), Hardman (24.3%), BG Group (13.084%), Fusion Mauritania (3%), Premier Oil (1.615%) and Roc Oil (4.155%).
