Elevated gas readings in Oil Search’s Yemen well

OIL Search says the Nabrajah-11 well in Yemen has recorded more elevated gas readings but no oil shows, over a 205m gross interval over part of the Kohlan-Naifa Basement.

The company yesterday said following the completion earlier this week of electric logging over the Kohlan-Naifa Formation and Basement, Nabrajah-11 had been deepened in order to evaluate further the potential of the basement.

After drilling resumed, elevated gas shows (C1-C5) were recorded over the interval 2455m-2660m.

The well was now continuing through the basement section towards the planned total depth of 2877m. A testing program would be started once total depth was reached and electric logging completed.

Last week, Oil Search said Nabrajah-11 had recorded elevated gas readings over a 272m gross interval, with some oil staining, over part of the lower Kohlan-Naifa Formation.

Participants in the Nabrajah-11 well are operator DNO ASA (56.67%), Oil Search (Yemen) (28.33%) and The Yemen Company (15%), which is being carried through this phase of the program.

Oil Search also said the Arakubi-1 exploration well, which spudded early this month in licence PDL 2 in Papua New Guinea, was now at 1375m and drilling ahead.

Arakubi-1 is 5km east of the Kutubu oil field and is targeting the Toro Sandstone in a seismically defined hanging wall structure. Planned total depth is 2945m.

Participants in Arakubi-1 are Oil Search (70.24%), Australian Gas Light Company (13.93%), Merlin Petroleum (7.93%) and Petroleum Resources (Kutubu) (7.90%).
