Oil shows at first Sellicks development well

These shows were encountered in the Birkhead at a depth of 1727-1730m, the Hutton Formation at 1916-1918m and the basal Poolowanna Formation at 1993-2002m.

An initial drill stem test attempted yesterday in the Poolowanna Formation, between 1984m and 2007m, was a mis-run, the Perth-based company said.

This morning, operator Beach Petroleum was conducting a wiper trip in preparation for running another DST over this formation, the results of which are expected in the next 24 hours, according to Cooper.

Drilling will then continue in an 8½-inch hole to evaluate the Patchawarra objective at a depth of 2064m. Once the well reaches a planned total depth of 2147m, wireline logs will be run to evaluate all shows.

The Sellicks-2 well, which was spudded on May 11, is currently at a depth of 2007m.

Sellicks-2 is the first of a two-well program designed to appraise the Sellicks oil field.

It follows on from the field’s wildcat discovery well, drilled in July 2003. The Sellicks-1 well has produced more than 250,000 barrels of oil to date from the Patchawarra Formation.

The PPL 204 joint venture comprises operator Beach, which holds a 75% stake and Cooper Energy (25%).
