IGL Asia Pacific director David Kennare said the company’s Australian process engineering consultancy would become the driving force between Poyry’s move into the Australian and South-East Asian energy sector.
“As there are no geographical overlaps, we believe that this will provide us with a significant competitive advantage in front-end, multidisciplinary engineering services,” Kennare said.
IGL said the new combined oil and gas business area comprises in excess of 300 multi-discipline oil and gas consultants servicing Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East, with plans to continue expansion into other international markets.
Services provided by the new group will include pre-FEED and FEED, multidiscipline engineering support subsea, life of field extension, enhanced oil recovery technology, process safety and risk management and pipelines submarine/upstream.
“One of our first priorities will be to recruit 40 staff to meet the backlog of work for existing Australian and South-East Asian projects, including Pöyry’s $A16 million design engineering contract for Brunei Shell Petroleum,” he said.
IGL was established in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1989 and now has offices in Perth, Norway and Malaysia.
Poyry was founded in 1958 in Finland and employs around 5600 people in 45 countries. It is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
