On Tuesday, Ottoman said three potential gas-bearing sandstone intervals with reservoir characteristics were interpreted at various depths in the Thrace Basin well.
The operators had decided on the basis of logging data to first test the 589-594m interval. If successful this would result in shutting off the well for future production.
The well would also be shut-in as a producer at the 412.5-415m and 417-418m intervals, as well as at 365-370m interval, if the tests produce positive results.
But if all tests prove unsuccessful, the well would be plugged and abandoned, Ottoman said.
Following the testing and either the completion or abandonment procedures, the M700 rig, which spudded Bati Umur-1, will move to the Arpaci-1 well location in a nearby but separate prospect. This well is expected to start drilling at the end of this month.
Ottoman said the Bati-Umur and Arpaci prospects have positive geochemical anomalies at surface, which indicated mini gas seepage and strong amplitude anomalies on seismic coinciding with interpreted reservoir intervals.
Both prospects are in the Edirne Licence AR/PTK-MER/3839, in which Ottoman now has a 65% interest.
Last month, Ottoman farmed-out 15% of its working interest in the Edirne Licence to Incremental Petroleum. Under the terms, Incremental will fund a future exploration program to a cap of A$3 million.
Following the farm-in, interest holders in the licence will be Ottoman 65%, Incremental 15%, Merty Energy and Petraco (joint operators) 10% each).
